Challenge
Foodliner/Quest Liner is one of the largest bulk food grade and specialty chemical carriers in the United States. They have a fleet of tractors and trailers that travel as few as six miles to well over 1,000 miles. Preventive maintenance care and extending oil drain intervals are essential to their operation. Keeping fuel costs low and having a consistent lubricant supply across their footprint was key to their success. The CITGO team was committed to helping them achieve that success and backed it up with a written guarantee that CITGO would replace any engine lost due to a lubricant failure.

Solutions
CITGO Lubricant specialists partnered with Foodliner/Quest Liner over a 15-year period transitioning the fleet to a lower viscosity, heavy-duty engine oil (HDEO) with the goals of extending oil drain intervals, lowering fuel costs and improving maintenance practices - all with a consistent lubricant supply regardless of where the maintenance was done.

Applying in-depth equipment and application analysis, CITGO offered a range of low-viscosity, heavy-duty engine oils to help Foodliner/Quest Liner reach their maintenance goals. Low-viscosity, heavy-duty engine oils are proven to increase fuel economy, improve engine cleanliness and durability. Test results prove they can extend oil drain intervals.

After evaluating oil samples, usage, and data values using the CITGO LubeAlert^® Fluid Condition Monitoring Service, Foodliner/Quest Liner put all grades of CITGARD Heavy Duty Engine Oils to the test. They confidently concluded that CITGARD 700 MFE Synthetic Blend Heavy Duty Engine Oil 10W-30, engineered for fuel efficiency and improved engine performance in both new and older engines, was the optimum choice.

Outcome
When Foodliner/Quest Liner first partnered with CITGO, their oil drain intervals averaged 24,000 miles. Following consultations with CITGO technical experts, they doubled to 48,000 miles with CITGARD 600 and then increased to 72,000 miles with CITGARD 700 10W-30. After making the transition to CITGARD 700 MFE Synthetic Blend Heavy Duty Engine Oil 10W-30, Foodliner/Quest Liner was able to safely extend their oil drain interval to 90,000 miles. The data proved that switching to CITGARD 700 MFE Synthetic Blend Heavy Duty Engine Oil 10W-30 increased their oil drain interval by 24.3%.

In 2021, Foodliner/Quest Liner acquired another fleet. The acquisition came with a new set of challenges, including new engine technology that utilized compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel. After consultation with the CITGO team, Foodliner/Quest Liner, began using the multi-fuel CITGARD 800 Synthetic Blend Heavy Duty Engine Oil (formerly CITGARD Engine OIL CNG/LNG).
